  • NEW Bathymetric Features layer
  • NEW Bathymetry 50m - 1000m layer
  • NEW MFish Office Locations layer
  • NEW Aquaculture Settlement Areas and Coordinates
  • UPDATED Wildlife Act - new species added
  • UPDATED Marae - labels added to improve display
  • UPDATED Territorial Local Authorities and Regional Council Boundaries - styling changed to improve display
  • UPDATED Maui and Hector's Dolphin Strandings - strandings updated to the 31st of July 2011
  • UPDATED Species Breeding Distribution layers - 6 Bird Breeding Distributions and 3 Mammal Breeding Distributions

 

Official Placenames

5 new official placenames layers have been added to NABIS and can be found under 'Placenames' in the Terrestrial Topic.  These layers have been created using data supplied by LINZ and indicate placenames that have been legally defined and gazetted in the New Zealand Gazette.

Bathymetric Features

The Bathymetric Features layer has been added to NABIS.  This layer contains information about undersea features such as basin's, seamounts and trenches in the New Zealand region.

 

Bathymetry 50m - 1000m

A new bathymetry layer has been added that shows 8 different depth contours between 50m and 1000m.

MFish Office Locations

A new layer has been added that indicates the geographic location of the Ministry of Fisheries offices around New Zealand.

 

Aquaculture Settlement Areas and Coordinates

The Aquaculture Settlement Areas and Coordinates represent the areas that have been gazetted for the Purposes of Maori Commercial Aquaculture Claims Settlement Act 2004.  These areas were gazetted in October 2011.

Wildlife Act

Some new species were added to the Wildlife Act and the Wildlife Act layer on NABIS has now been updated.  Some of the new species include Basking shark, Manta ray, Spine tailed devil ray and a range of corals.

 

Marae

Labels have been added to the Marae layer.

Territorial Local Authorities and Regional Council Boundaries

The display styling for these two layers have been changed to ensure that they look better when both layers are loaded at the same time.

 

Maui and Hector's Dolphin Strandings

5 new strandings have been added around the South Island.  This layer is now up to date as at the 31st of July 2011.
