Data View function is added - December 2009
Hi All,
The Data View function has been added to NABIS. You might be familiar with it from the older version of NABIS.
Basically it is a spreadsheet view that shows important and interesting information for each map layer.
One row in data view = one feature on the map i.e. one marine reserve or one rohe moana. It is explained further below.
You can use it to find and highlight selected features.
Thanks to all of you who have given feedback on the data and operation of the new system. Please continue to let us know what you think of the new release of NABIS by emailing us at nabis@fish.govt.nz.
Please note that in the older version of NABIS the data layers are no longer being kept up-to-date. This includes the background information you see when you look at data view or do a what's here query.

EXAMPLE OF HOW YOU CAN USE DATA VIEW:
|
1) Click the data view link on the legend for a map layer you are interested in, here we are interested in Marine Reserves.
(note that data view is excluded from some map layers for logical reasons)
|
|
2) You are taken to the Data View page for your layer of interest. Below you can see a snippet of the Marine Reserves Data View page. You can sort the data by column - click on the column heading to do this, click again to sort backwards.

|
|
3) Place a tick in the box to the left of a row to select it for highlighting. Each row is one feature on the map. Below you can see the Pohatu (Flea Bay) Marine Reserve has been selected. You would then click the grey Highlight Selected Objects button to go back to the map and view your selection...
|
|
4) The map will zoom to the highlighted feature(s). Below you can see the Pohatu Marine Reserve and its label have been highlighted in yellow. |

In addition to highlight selected objects, a show selected objects button will be coming soon... more on that early 2010.
As mentioned in our previous communication we are working on adding more data and functions... look out for these next year.
Happy holidays!
