New data and improvements for October
Hi All,
We have completed the first big update of data in the current system. This page contains information on what has been updated and what we have still coming.
Thanks to all of you who have given feedback on the data and operation of the new system. Please continue to let us know what you think of the new release of NABIS by emailing us at nabis@fish.govt.nz.
Please note that in the older version of NABIS the data layers are no longer being kept up-to-date.

Data and Improvements - October 2009:
Substock Boundaries for Orange Roughy and Oreo Stocks: These unofficial substocks show areas where there is an agreed catch limit between industry and the Ministry of Fisheries. This is to help manage these important commercial species. There are 5 new map layers.

Hydrographic charts: These are under ENVIRONMENT. Choose either the 1250k or 3500k chart depending on the level of detail you require.

Rohe Moana coordinates: Use the what's here tool to find out the coordinates. Labels to be loaded in another update - we need a little more time to get these looking better.

SPRFMO - Trawl Footprint, Open Areas and General Fishing Areas: A set of 5 map layers that all fall within the jurisdiction of the proposed South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation. A footprint of NZ vessels trawling intensity, areas open to bottom trawling and general locations of high seas fishing. Included are 2 coordinate layers.

Marine Protected Area (MPA) biogeographic areas: As part of the MPA policy NZ has been divided into 14 coastal biogeographic regions. These are areas with similar physical habitats and ecosystems. These boundaries are a joint initiative between Ministry of Fisheries and the Department of Conservation.

Layer ordering improved: Eel QMAs are now on top of the land. All other layers in NABIS now have been checked and corrected where needed. |
