What Is Metadata?
NABIS Metadata is information about a layer. Metadata provides details on how a layer was created, the source, quality, and limitations.
What is a Metadata Element?
A Metadata element is an individual field of metadata for each of the information layers. Metadata for each layer is made up of many elements. For example: For each information layer we store a Title, Description, and any Warnings/Problems the user should be aware of.
How is NABIS Metadata Accessed?
Metadata may be accessed from either; the Map Legend of the active layer by selecting the show details/metadata hyperlink, or by clicking on the 'i' to the left of the layer name in the 'Select Layers' tab. For each item in the Layer Index page there will also be a show details/metdata hyperlink.
How is NABIS Metadata Structured?
NABIS Metadata is structured according to 7 categories, these are displayed on separate tabs:

Summary metadata provides the most important metadata elements as a quick reference.

Discovery metadata contains metadata elements required under the NZGLS metadata standard.

Accuracy metadata is used to assess the accuracy of the layer.

Coverage metadata describes the geographical extent of the layer.

Usage metadata describes whether a layer can be used, how it can be used, and from where it can be obtained.

Layer Information metadata gives further descriptive information and lists the search words for the layer.

Maintenance metadata describes the maintenance and management of the layer.
NABIS Metadata is structured:

to ensure that information assets are consistently described and catalogued, enabling them to be identified, discovered, accessed and managed;

using common metadata elements to facilitate the discovery of government information; and
-
to ensure compatibility with world wide trends, allowing data to be shared with other agencies and sectors, both nationally and internationally, with whom the provider may wish to collaborate.
Can I print a copy of the Metadata?
When you are displaying the Metadata for an information layer, you will need to set your page settings to landscape. A print format option is also available in the top left hand corner of the Metadata page.
