Introduction
This tool enables you to customise your NABIS experience. You can change the coordinate display format on the Latitude/Longitude reporting in the status bar, change the units of measure for linear and area measurements and change your map preferences (north arrow and scale information display).

Using the 'Customise tool'
Select 'Customise' from the Map tools along the top of the map page. An page opens that allows you to select your preferred customise options. Click within the radio buttons to make your selections.

1) Changing the coordinate display format
The status bar at the bottom of the map displays the latitude and longitude of the cursor position.
Choose a format from the following: decimal degrees, degrees/minutes, degrees/minutes/seconds or a combination of decimal degrees and degrees/minutes.
The hemisphere is indicated with either an E (east), W(west), N(north) or S(south).
Note: The functionality will not work on an Internet Explorer 7 browser if it has been disabled or no enabled. You will need to check “Tools -> Internet Options” from the Internet Explorer menu then select the “Security” tab and the “Internet” zone then click on the “Custom Level” button, scroll down to the "Allow status bar updates via script" option and enable. You will need to restart your browser session. Mozilla Firefox does not allow this functionality.

2) Changing the Units of Measure
The units of measure settings are used when calculating distances and areas for imported layers and for the measure distance tool.
There are two different types of measurement used in NABIS - linear measurements (i.e. measuring the distance along a line) and area measurements. You can choose between kilometres/metres and nautical miles for the linear measurements and square kilometres/metres squared, square nautical miles and hectares for the area measurements.

3) Map Preferences
Projection Information
Choose to show or hide it. It indicates the map projection and displays in the top left hand corner of the map.
North Arrow
Choose a north arrow style or simply hide it. It indicates true north and displays in the top right hand corner of the map.
Scale Information
Choose to show or hide it. The scale bar, window width and map scale (i.e. 1:10000) displays in the top left hand corner of the map.
Latitude and Longitude Markers
Choose to show or hide the markers. They show a grid of horizontal (latitude) and vertical (longitude) lines on the map. Used to establish a frame of reference.

Your selections will be retained when you access NABIS from this point on. You can restore the default settings for all options by clicking the 'Reset' button.
